⚖️ Sindh Cracks Down on Restaurants Not Accepting Card Payments

Sindh authorities are taking strict legal action against restaurants and outlets refusing to accept debit or credit cards, enforcing consumer rights across the province.

🛑 No More “Cash Only” — Sindh Orders Strict Action Against Non-Compliant Restaurants

In a decisive move to protect consumer rights and promote digital payments, the Sindh government has launched enforcement actions against restaurants and commercial outlets refusing to accept debit and credit cards.

According to The News, multiple businesses — including well-known eateries, shopping malls, cafés, and biryani spots — have already been served formal notices under the Sindh Consumer Protection Act 2014.

🚨 Legal Action Underway in Karachi’s Clifton Area

The Sindh Consumer Protection Authority (SCPA), under the Bureau of Supply Prices, has begun cracking down, starting with restaurants in Karachi’s upscale Clifton locality.

Director General Zahid Hussain Shar confirmed that the government is committed to ensuring that electronic payment options are made available at all commercial establishments.

“This is both a legal and ethical responsibility,” Shar emphasized. “Non-compliant businesses will face legal consequences.”

🔎 Consumer Complaints Trigger Crackdown

The crackdown follows a surge in public complaints from consumers who were denied the option to pay via card. The enforcement is being carried out under Section 23(4) of the SCPA’s regulatory framework.

Assistant Director Mir Shahnawaz has instructed non-compliant businesses to immediately begin accepting card payments. Restaurants and outlets that ignore these directives will face legal proceedings and penalties.

⚖️ Business Owners Called to Appear

Offending businesses have been ordered to either appear in person or send authorized representatives to respond to the formal notices. Failure to do so will escalate the matter further.

The authorities have made it clear: Card payments are not optional — they are mandatory.

📲 Promoting Digital Payments and Consumer Convenience

This move is part of a broader push to encourage digital transactions, boost transparency, and ensure convenient payment options for all consumers in Sindh — especially in urban centers like Karachi.
